Dr. Ingrid Pincott, a Naturopathic Physician, has been practicing since 1985 and has written an article on a Vancouver based news website about her profession and the laws of nature.
Dr. Pincott said that she sees the role of a doctor as being closely aligned with that of a teacher. The word doctor actually comes from the Latin word “docere” which means “to teach”. The naturopath wants the information she provides to be of use to her patients for many years to come. Her website if full of newsletters and articles that she has been writing for over 20 years. Yet Pincott does not believe that this information could be out dated.
The physician describes naturopathic medicine as “a common sense medicine built on a strong foundation of basic nutritional knowledge that doesn’t change.” She says that although new herbs are being introduced into naturopathic practice and nutritional knowledge continues to develop, “there are some basic principles that stand the test of time. This is where I start with every patient.”
Pincott outlines some of these principles in her article:
“There are 40 micronutrients plus protein, carbohydrates and fats that everybody needs for optimal health. These include 15 minerals, 15 vitamins and essential fatty acids and amino acids.”
“Following the Laws of Nature are inherent in any Naturopathic Medical practice. This includes: getting enough sleep, getting enough time outdoors in the sun, drinking enough good quality water, eating a Mediterranean type diet, proper elimination of toxins from the body and time for peace and quiet.”
On the naturopath says:
“Cancer cells are microscopic and no surgeon can “get it all”! Some jurisdictions in Canada are now providing on-going patient centred support to cancer patients after they are deemed to be in remission. Naturopathic physicians have always emphasized preventive treatment for these types of patients to help avoid recurrence. Therapies include detoxification and antioxidant therapies.”
