We are all aware that too much of some things can be bad for us; fatty food, alcohol, high fat dairy. Well, here’s the good news! Dark chocolate, red wine, grapes and berries are all great, in moderation, for helping to prevent and fight cancer.
All of these delicious foods contain high levels of resveratrol, a compound that is shown to be incredibly poisonous to cancer cells. Resveratrol is a polyphenol, a naturally occurring plant chemical that is a powerful antioxidant. And, with correct use, it is thought that resveratrol has the ability to fight cancer in humans, without causing the potentially devastating damage to healthy cells that current conventional treatment can.
Resveratrol has the ability to inhibit the activity of a protein that helps to feed cancer cells. By stopping this protein, nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kB), resveratrol starves cancer cells of the nutrients that they need and causes cancer cell suicide. It is also shown to promote the activity of vitamin D3, another immune-boosting compound, which is shown to convert into a steroid that can inhibit cancer cell growth.
Further studies show that the antioxidant and ant inflammatory properties of resveratrol can prevent the kind of cell damage that leads to cancer, whilst other research shows the polyphenol’s ability to block cancer growth and development in skin cancer, leukemia and breast cancer.
Sources of Resveratrol
Whilst red wine is a good source of resveratrol, the link between alcohol and colon cancer and mouth cancer means that it is best to limit alcohol intake. Grapes, in particular red grapes, contain high levels of resveratrol, with the highest concentration of the compound found in the skin. Green grapes, grape jam and raisins also contain resveratrol, but in lower amounts than red and purple grapes.
Resveratrol and Breast Cancer
As we are aware, estrogen is a key factor behind the development of many breast cancer cases. Studies show that resveratrol could neutralize the contribution that estrogen makes to cancer. Resveratrol has the potential to stop estrogen to changing into substances that cause the DNA in breast cells to develop tumors. It is, therefore, possible for resveratrol to be used to prevent the initial process that causes breast cancer to develop.
In addition to its ability to fight breast cancer, resveratrol can inhibit cancer growth in other cancers, including prostate cancer.
Resveratrol as Part of Functional Oncology
At Alternative Cancer Treatment Mexico we use resveratrol as part of our immune support step of the 5 step Functional Oncology program. The capability of the compound to stop cancer growth as well as cause cancer death helps the body to fight cancer cells naturally, whilst maintaining god cellular health. In this way we are able to use a unique combination of natural factors to strengthen healthy cells, provide immune support and weaken cancer cells.
Our remarkable survival rates are testimony to the effectiveness of this alternative approach to cancer. If you would like to know more about Functional Medicine and how it could help you or a loved one, contact us today.
