Australian news website the ‘Herald Sun’ has reported that Jim Stynes, Irish former professional Australian rules footballer, is the first person in Australia to trial a new drug that could give hope to thousands of cancer patients.
In this video the 45-year-old admits he still doesn’t know if he has what it takes to conquer the disease.
He was selected for the treatment which, unlike chemotherapy, zooms in on cancer cells without destroying healthy ones.
Oncologist Grant McArthur said Stynes was chosen because of the tenacity he has shown through a grueling range of cancer treatments and surgeries.
Angeles hospital in Mexico uses a range of techniques that, like the drug Jim is trying, focus on diseased cells only. Methods used include dendritic and NK cells, which you can learn more about by filling in the form on the right.
