coffeeWith so much research into what may, or may not, cause cancer, prevent cancer and even cure cancer, it is no wonder we all get a little confused sometimes. One minute, a glass of red wine a day is good for you, the next it puts you at risk. The results of a recent survey seem to show that our views on coffee are a little confused too.

In a survey of 2,000 adults, 9% thought that drinking coffee could lead to cancer. Whilst the health benefits of coffee have been investigated over the years, the World Cancer Research Fund said that there is no proof that coffee leads to cancer. In fact, it is even possible that coffee consumption could help to protect the body from certain cancers, such as throat and mouth cancer. Other evidence suggests that coffee could help protect against womb cancer and liver cancer.

In addition to nearly one person out of every ten surveyed believing that coffee could cause cancer, around one in 5 (20%) of the adults asked thought that the most harmful element in coffee is the caffeine. It is not, in fact, the caffeine found in coffee that is the most harmful, but full fat milk and sugar that people add to their hot drinks.

Here are some other popular myths about cancer:

  • That you can compensate for the increased cancer risk from smoking by eating lots of antioxidants. Although some studies show that certain antioxidants could reduce cancer risks, these are unlikely to offset the risk of smoking. Best to kick the habit and up your antioxidant intake anyway.
  • If a product could cause cancer, it has to say so on the packet. Whilst severe carcinogens, such as cigarettes, have to be labelled under FDA regulations, there are some substances that could be mildly carcinogenic to some people when used over time. These products won’t be labelled stating that there is a potential increased cancer.

At Alternative Cancer Treatment Mexico we treat each patient as an individual, assessing the cellular requirements of the body before detoxifying, and boosting the immune system, to increase the individual’s ability to fight cancer, naturally. By continually assessing health levels we adjust each patient’s diet and treatment so that we can help them to achieve optimal cellular health. By assessing each patient on a regular basis, we are able to understand better how each individual reacts to lifestyle and environmental factors that can affect the behavior of their cells.

We understand that what may trigger cancer in one person, may not in another. We also know that what works for one may not work for someone else. This is why our unique Functional Oncology program is tailored to each individual, to meet the needs of that individual, helping each patient to fight their own battle with our help.
